Define and discuss the marriage gradient and the marriage squeeze
What will be an ideal response?
The student's answer should assert that marriage gradient refers to the tendency of men to marry downward in regard to age and social class. This instance is called hypogamy. Women tend to marry upward in age, social class, and education. This is called hypergamy. The marriage squeeze refers to the fact that women tend to be squeezed out of marriage by a lack of available partners, a circumstance due in part to hypogamy.
