Compare the differences among the cognitive learning theories of Piaget, Bruner, and Vygotsky.

What will be an ideal response?

According to Piaget, at certain times in a child’s intellectual growth, different mental structures begin to emerge. Piaget argued that at each of these stages of maturation, a child is ready for a different type of learning. Jerome Bruner, another cognitive learning theorist, took Piaget’s ideas a step further by arguing that at any stage of cognitive development, teachers should allow children to discover ideas for themselves. The Russian psychologist Lev Vygotsky showed how social contexts influence the ideas that people develop.
