The frustration-aggression hypothesis states that people aggress when they are kept from reaching their goals. The threatened-egotism theory states that violence is related to the combination of a threat to the ego and a highly favorable view of the self. Lastly, the general aggression model combines many theories of aggression into one, taking into consideration the biology, personality, and environment, as well as the thoughts, feelings, and arousal, of a person in a particular situation. Students will go on to explain which one they believe is more valid. As an example, many students may believe that the general aggression model is more valid because it recognizes both situational variables and individual variables. In essence, it includes the frustration-aggression hypothesis and the threatened-egotism model as part of its overall model.
