Compare Allport’s concept of the proprium to Rogers’s concept of the self.
What will be an ideal response?
Allport defined the proprium as behaviors and traits that are key, central or important to a person; it is our sense of our true “self,” who we really are. Rogers’s organismic self is similar to this idea because it is the true self and an accurate perception of our experiences. Rogers’s self-concept is similar to this idea also because self-concept is our perception of ourselves. However, Rogers also discussed the possibility that we sometimes view ourselves inaccurately, i.e., we have an inaccurate self-concept.
