What are three things that you think the United States can do to reduce environmental degradation? Using a conflict perspective, why isn’t the United States doing more?
What will be an ideal response?
Answers will vary, but students may choose to discuss any three solutions to reducing environmental degradation in the United States. Some examples are greater household composting efforts, stricter enforcement for low emission vehicles, and enforcing less pollution from corporations. Students may discuss that under a conflict perspective, those in authority, that is, those who have the power to be greater advocates for the environment, benefit the most from those who contribute to the pollution. Those in power would potentially lose money or power by placing greater environmental controls, which is why we often rely on small organizations and grassroots advocates to defend the environment.
