Describe some of the many uses for halfway houses and explain the advantages and disadvantages of them
What will be an ideal response?
Halfway houses can be used for community correctional purposes, drug and alcohol free living spaces, pre-releasing, and as a place to provide intensive services. They can provide a home for offenders ranging from low to high risk. They can provide treatment that the offender may or may not otherwise receive and can help to keep offenders safe, stable, and drug free.
Disadvantages include the problem that occurs when low- and high-risk offenders are placed together. Low-risk offenders tend to increase their negative behaviors when in the presence of higher-risk offenders. There also could be a stigma attached to residents of a halfway house.
