For a pregnant patient, abdominal thrusts should not be used because they may damage the unborn child and the size of a pregnant woman sometimes makes it physically impossible to perform the maneuver. The best method of treatment in this case is the Heimlich maneuver with chest thrusts rather than abdominal thrusts.
