Reproductive capacity means that cows must be able to produce and raise healthy calves at least once annually. If a cow fails to become pregnant shortly after her calf is raised, time and effort are lost. Cows can fail to conceive due to reproductive or other issues. Females, for example, should have sufficient pelvic capacity to allow passage of a calf through the birth canal. Males, for their part, should be able to mount females with ease_
