Emotional regulation is a person's ability to understand and monitor his or her emotional experience and engage in appropriate behavior when distressed. Each student should address at least three of the following in their answer: (1) Select the situation you're in and determine if you can avoid the situation. (2) Try to soften the impact of an emotion by making changes to a situation. (3) Change the focus of your attention.
(4) Change your thinking about the situation. (5) Control the emotional responses to events by altering the physiological and experiential aspects of negative emotions.
