Dewey believed that learning flowed from children’s interests instead of from teacher chosen activities. John Dewey rejected Froebel’s approach to symbolic education. Dewey also advocated for a child’s interaction with the whole environment and coined the term “child-centered curriculum,” which focused on preparing children for social responsibilities. His belief differed from Froebel’s notion that teachers should direct and guide children’s learning and that “play” was at the center of learning.
