Explain the three positive feedback loops in the female reproductive system

What will be an ideal response?

Ans:

a. The hormone Estradiol, a form of estrogen starts rising as follicle develops in the ovaries, during the menstrual cycle. Progesterone also rises up. After the 14th day of the cycle , the estrogen hormone has a positive feedback effect, where it doesnt suppress the gonadotropin release. This results in increase in LH levels, leading to egg release.

b. The hormone oxytocin secreted by posterior pituitary, stimulates the contractions in labor. The hormone oxytocin stimulates the secretion of prostaglandins, in a positive feedback loop, which stimulates the secretion of prostaglandins from fetal membranes. These prostaglandins also enhance uterine contractions ,during child birth.
