Can a company operating only locally go international? Discuss and give examples.

What will be an ideal response?

Geography has long been used as a strategic variable in shaping market strategy. The usual method for a business is to initially limit itself locally, then expand state by state and region by region. However, various companies have gone from local to international operations. Many small integrated circuit manufacturers have found it easier to expand internationally than to compete in the United States. In addition, some companies have found it more profitable to concentrate on international sales than on domestic ones. Massey-Ferguson decided long ago to concentrate on sales outside of North America, rather than compete with U.S. farm equipment producers.
