Explain one classroom practice that can be used to assist students with special educational needs in developing, maintaining, and generalizing study skills?

What will be an ideal response?

One classroom practice that may help students with disabilities acquire, maintain and generalize study skills is semantic mapping. Semantic mapping helps students acquire and apply study skills within the context of classroom tasks or situations. As students use semantic webs they elaborate on what they know and graphically organize that knowledge. Students build on previous study skill knowledge and experiences, no matter how inexperienced they may be in using study skills. Some recommended topic for using semantic maps include:
(i) Reading rate—finding the main idea; locating primary and secondary details; generating proper sequence of ideas; using strategies for retaining and recalling read material based on purpose
(ii) Effective note taking and outlining—organizing and managing notes; including sufficient details; using proper headings and subheadings; using effective organizational format

(Students may create a semantic map to show how it is used to teach a particular study skill.)
