How did paganism differ from Christianity in late antiquity?

What will be an ideal response?

Paganism was a much more fragmented institution in the Late Empire than Christianity was. That fragmentation was necessary partly because, by definition, paganism required polytheism and thus assumed many varying gods and practices. By contrast, Christianity provided a focus on a monotheistic god, with relatively similar practices and beliefs. The significant aspect of Christianity was that it provided a sense of unification and a cultural bond, particularly important at a time when the cultural bond of Romanization was disintegrating. Finally, Christianity found itself forming a larger community through its social aspect of worship and a sense of social network (charity and caring), relative to the fairly isolated, individualized communities in pagan populations.
