There is extensive linguistic diversity in South Asia. Indo-European languages dominate the north, while Dravidian and Tamil languages are found in the South. India's states are based on linguistic differences. Increasingly, the role of Hindi is expanding, especially in the north. As well, English is a common language because of the long role of Great Britain in the region.
