Describe the influence that Marx had on conflict theories of crime.

What will be an ideal response?

Karl Marx theorized that the law is the tool by which the ruling class controls the lower class and keeps them in a disadvantaged position. Conflict theories of crime assume that all societies are in a process of constant change which causes the inevitable conflict among various groups. Much like the Marxist theories, law is seen as a tool by which some groups gain and maintain dominance over less powerful groups. Using ideas from Marx’s theories and of the newer conflict perspective, lead to the development of new theories by theorists such as Selling, Vold, and Turk
