Karl Marx theorized that the law is the tool by which the ruling class controls the lower class and keeps them in a disadvantaged position. Conflict theories of crime assume that all societies are in a process of constant change which causes the inevitable conflict among various groups. Much like the Marxist theories, law is seen as a tool by which some groups gain and maintain dominance over less powerful groups.
