RICE is an acronym for the choice of treatment after trauma: Rest, Ice, Compression, and Elevation. Rest is achieved by immobilization and prevention of stress to the injured area. Ice is achieved by the controlled application of cryotherapy. Compression is provided by applying an elastic bandage or sleeve to the injured area and elevation by positioning the injured area above the level of the heart.
