Describe the techniques used to verify esophageal placement of an orogastric tube
Confirmation of tube placement in neonatal animals requires palpation. To confirm tube
placement, palpate the left cranial one-third of the neck approximately 4 inches from the
mandible. As it is easiest to palpate the tube end when it is in motion, the technician can
palpate while gently moving the tube up and down.
