What was the Jim Crow system? In what ways does the U.S. demonstrate the "new" Jim Crow?

What will be an ideal response?

Varies. The Jim Crow system of rigid competitive race relations in the American South that lasted from the 1880s until the 1960s. Jim Crow laws enforced racial segregation in all public facilities. This was a system of racial apartheid that dominated the South. Today, racism is easily "concealed" in social institutions as discrimination has become more subtle. For example, the criminal justice system has used the War on Drugs to enforce both traditional and new discrimination. The War on Drugs disproportionately impacts minorities, even though Whites are no less likely to use drugs than Blacks. People of color are placed in a second-class status under the War on Drugs and this status does not end once they leave prison. This prevents Black men from fully participating in our society.
