Explain the flow of water in the global water cycle. What will be an ideal response?
ANSWER: The cycle is driven by solar energy. Water evaporates into the atmosphere and then returns
back to earth in the form of rain and snow. The majority of water evaporation taking place
over the oceans falls back to the oceans. Some of the water vapor is driven over land by wind
and falls as precipitation onto land. Surface and groundwater then moves the water back into
the oceans. In addition evaporation from land plants (transpiration) also moves water into the
atmosphere and it falls as precipitation over land.
