Why does narrowcasting present a distorted picture of crime in the United States?

What will be an ideal response?

Answer should indicate that in the past, people only had a few news outlets to choose from, so these outlets presented a wide-range of perspectives. Now with so many media channels to choose from, audiences are less and more homogenous and they are presented infotainment packaged as comprehensive news. With all of these news outlets vying for advertising profit, they emphasize the most sensational crimes and sympathetic victims, which are often a distorted view of reality.
