Illustrate the difference between “normal” anxiety and pathological anxiety.

What will be an ideal response?

Normal (ontological or existential) anxiety arises partially from the fact that human experience is transient and tenuous. The ever-present possibility of death constantly threatens our very being. Existential anxiety is an essential and necessary part of fundamental and normal human processes such as growth and creativity. Pathological (neurotic or psychotic) anxiety results when individuals avoid or repress normal anxiety. Practitioners of existential therapy work to teach patients to carefully listen to and confront their anxiety rather than reflexively running from it.
