Explain the difference between a civil trial and a criminal trial
What will be an ideal response?
• In civil trials the adversaries are persons (including corporations, which are legal persons, and businesses), one of whom often is seeking a remedy in the form of damages from the other.
• In a criminal trial, it is the state, not the victim of the crime, that brings the action against an alleged wrongdoer. Criminal trial procedures reflect the need to protect criminal defendants against the power of the state by providing them with a number of rights.
