When an image is flattened using the flatten image command in the Layers panel Options menu, or what occurs when saving out to a different file format other than Photoshop’s native format (.psd), all layers and the styles they contain will be flattened into one, single image layer. Because of this, be sure to always save a Photoshop version of your file, just in case you need to open the file up again and make changes to items on individual layers.
