Since 1997, IDEA has required the participation of a general education teacher in IEP meetings. Why do you think this requirement was added, and what specific information might such a teacher be able to provide?

What will be an ideal response?

Answer:
General education teachers are experts in the curriculum normally provided in their grade or subject area. They also know what skills are required for success in the general education environment. By involving them in the planning process, their expertise can help the team select the most relevant objectives and supports, thereby increasing the likelihood of the learner with a disability being successful in learning the concepts and skills required of all in our society.
