Describe the multiple readings procedure designed to teach students to answer inferential items

What will be an ideal response?


Multiple readings of a story can be used when teaching inference skills. The first time reading the story, the teacher should present inference questions and guide students through using clues in the passage to "solve" or figure out the answer to the inference question. The teacher can use a think-aloud procedure to model the thinking process. During the second reading of the story, the teacher should ask the question and have students answer the questions and explain how they determined the answer.
