Differentiate between internal and external control, explain which one you would like your students to have, and explain how you would help them develop it.

What will be an ideal response?

Internal control means children do what is right because they know it is right, and their conscience tells them what to do. External control means they are doing what is right only because they are afraid of being caught and punished if they do not. Internal control is better because it helps children to grow into better people. I would help children develop this by always explaining why they should or should not do certain things. When they do something wrong, I would explain to them why it is wrong and who else they are hurting, or how they are hurting themselves. I would let them make decisions without yelling at them, but when they are wrong, I would make sure they see how much trouble they caused, such as making them watch the janitor clean up a mess they made. I would also make sure they know the positive consequences of doing the right things.
