Explain why soap stings the eye

What will be an ideal response?

Ordinary bar soap has a slightly lower pH than that of the human eye. So, when it gets in your eyes, it stings! Chemical reactions in the body are very sensitive to even slight changes in the acidity or alkalinity of the body fluids in which they occur. Any departure from the narrow limits of normal and concentrations greatly disrupts body functions.
