Describe the rationales for including spirituality in social work education.
What will be an ideal response?
Given the important role of spirituality in understanding both human diversity and human experience, it has become evident that gathering information about a client's religious or spiritual history and assessing spiritual development and current interests are as important as learning about biopsychosocial factors. Assessment needs to go beyond the surface features of faith affiliation to include deeper facets of a person's spiritual life. It is also important for social workers to have an understanding of a wide range of spiritual and religious beliefs in order to have an understanding of one's diverse clientele.
