Readers in the 21st century are required to read both traditional print and digital text. Almost all information is read online requiring new skills to determine the trustworthiness of that information. Readers in the 21st century are required to go beyond basic comprehension of information, and to employ higher-order thinking skills to understand new information, integrate it with existing schema, apply it to new situations, and communicate it to others. Learners today need to be critical readers of text.
