Would prohibition work today? Why or why not?

What will be an ideal response?

It is hard to say, but it would probably not be met with enthusiasm by most citizens. Prohibition has been tried before with negative results. If it were to be tried now, in all probability it would fail again. Similar to the 1920s, crime might actually increase. Illegal smuggling would increase as bootleggers try to get their illegal goods into the country and sell them for an enormous profit. This would cause the government to spend extra money on border control. Families that have saved liquor over the years would be expected to remove the liquor from their houses, which would not be easy to enforce. Organized crime would likely increase its profits by supplying people with what they want.
