Discuss the role of workers’ compensation schedules in determining compensation amounts.
What will be an ideal response?
Schedules are set amounts of recovery for particular parts of the body. A totally disabled eye might receive a larger award than a totally disabled toe, and so on. Schedules are incorporated into statutes that give them binding effect of law. Under the workers’ compensation schedules, the loss of a person’s thumb will earn more in compensation than will the loss of a ring finger. This award is based on the recognition that the loss of one part of the body can be more difficult to adapt to than others.
