Describe Davidman’s research study participants and why they were chosen.

What will be an ideal response?

ANS: Davidman chose the children (male and female) that were part of the Baby Boomer cohort. This cohort grew up in relative prosperity, with a family pattern of stay-at-home mothers and working fathers. Talking about death, especially parental death, was culturally tabooed. If the father died, the common culture imagined that the family would have money problems; if the mother died, the cultural expectation was that the family would have lost its emotional center. Davidman wanted to find out how people from that generation whose mothers had died coped with the silence about death and with the emotional loss.
