Feedback:
Mumps, also called epidemic parotitis, is a viral disease that affects the salivary glands, especially the parotids. It is transmitted through direct and indirect contact and through salivary secretions. The swelling from mumps begins to disappear by the second or third day and is usually gone by day 10 . Children younger than 2 years and adults seldom contract mumps. However, adults who contract mumps may suffer serious aftereffects, including sterility in men. Treatment of the symptoms (not IV antibiotics) is the usual nursing measure.
