Ageism can result in persistent stereotypes that older adults internalize. “negative priming” results in the older adult have higher cardiovascular stress, higher anxiety which can raise blood pressure, declines in vision and hearing and a shortened life expectancy. It is imperative to counteract the impact of ageism through destigmatizing and normalizing the process of aging, preserving individuals’ sense of physical well-being and healthy life styles.
