The Sixth Amendment guarantees the right of a criminal defendant to a speedy trial; however, there is actually no set time for a speedy trial. This right is more often violated than not, as tactics used by defense attorneys including pretrial motions, complex plea negotiations, and delay tactics during trial delay this right.
