Describe how a project fits into each of the three common organizational structures

1 . Pure project organizational structure: Team members are assigned exclusively to projects and report only to the project manager. This approach makes it easier to manage projects because project teams can be designed for efficiency by including the right mix of skills. However, it can result in inefficiencies because of duplication of resources.
2 . Pure functional organizational structure: Projects are chartered exclusively within functional departments. This allows team members to work on different projects simultaneously and provides a "home" for the project. However, it ignores an important reality: communication across the organization is difficult.
3 . Matrix organizational structure: Resources are lent to projects while still maintaining control over them. Project managers coordinate the work across the functions. However, functional managers may be reluctant to provide the resources, and employees assigned to projects might relegate a project to a lower priority than their daily functional job.
