Trace the sequence of events from a crime occurring to the initial court proceeding.

What will be an ideal response?

Example should indicate that after the crime occurs, police respond and investigate, interview witnesses, gather evidence, and identify a suspect. Once probable cause is established, an arrest can be made. The case is then referred to the prosecutor, who decides if charges should be filed. This may be in the form of an information or a complaint. Once filed, the defendant is advised of his or her first appearance to hear the charges.
