Describe the statistical occurrence of low-birthweight births in the United States from 1960 to the present day. Explain some of the reasons for the trends

What will be an ideal response

In the mid 1960s approximately 8.2 percent of babies born in the U.S. were born at
low birthweight. This percentage declined steadily and was at its lowest in the early
1980s, when it was around 6.6 percent. Since then, the rate of low-birthweight births
has been steadily increasing. There are many possible reasons for this increase,
including lack of access to adequate prenatal care, poor social support, and increased rates of drug use, both legal and illegal.
