Each plant will have a standardized file for their piping and auxiliary symbols. Process technicians should carefully review the piping symbols for major and minor flows, electric, pneumatic, capillary, and hydraulic and future equipment. The major flow path through a unit illustrates the critical areas a new technician should concentrate on. A variety of other symbols are included on the piping. These include, valves, strainers, flexible spool, filters, flanges, removable spool pieces, blinds, insulation, piping size, expansion joint, vent cover, in-line mixer, eductor, pulsation dampener, exhaust head, pressure rating, material codes and steam traps.
