How does behavior theory explain the shaping of human behavior?

What will be an ideal response?

They key assumption underlying behavior theory is the idea that behavior is determined by environmental consequences which it produces for the individual concerned. The individual's responses to feedback are known as operant behavior; behavior that affects the environment in such a way as to produce response or further behavioral cues.

Rewards and punishment shape behavior through this type of conditioning. If an individual is rewarded for a behavior, the frequency of the behavior may increase. If the individual is punished for engaging in a behavior, the frequency of the occurrence of that behavior is likely to decrease.
