Explain the concept of efficiency as a criterion for evaluating a human service program. Identify a specific human service program and discuss how it may be evaluated in regard to efficiency. What specific data would be collected?
What will be an ideal response?
Ans: Efficiency refers to how much the organization is getting for the money. In human services, it is typically measured in regard to the cost per unit of service delivered. An example would be the cost per therapy session offered. Another might be the cost per child abuse investigation completed. To calculate this cost, you would need to know (1) the amount of money spent on the specific service and (2) the number of units of service delivered. The Women’s Support Group is an intervention delivered in the Women’s Center of the Williams County Family Services Association. This service is delivered in weekly 1-hr group sessions. The cost per group session would be the specific data that would be calculated in order to evaluate the efficiency of this program.
