Explain the difference between top-down and bottom-up processing

What will be an ideal response?

Feature analysis is the process of detecting specific elements in visual input and assembling them into a more complex form; it assumes that form perception requires bottom-up processing that requires a progression from individual elements to the whole. In bottom-up processing, processing involves detection of the features of the stimulus, combining the specific features into more complex forms and then recognition of the stimulus. This is contrasted with top-down processing, which proposes that perception of form involves a progression from the whole to the elements.
