Discuss how crime mapping can be an important element for patrol deployment? What is one weakness of crime mapping?

What will be an ideal response?

Crime mapping takes data from a number of sources and superimposes this data on a map of a certain area. The purpose of all this is to give planners an idea of crimes and calls for services at various locations included those of varying degrees of risk. As discussed, some of the software can portray incidents by time of days. This all can be used for patrol deployment of regular marked and undercover units.

The major weakness is the data itself. For example, over and underreporting of offenses such as auto theft, burglary gives planners a skewed image of the crime problem to be addressed. Sometimes this is linked to unethical efforts either to increase or decrease crime statistics.
