What are the advantages and disadvantages of male sterilization?
What will be an ideal response?
The major advantages of the vasectomy are its effectiveness and its minimal health risks. Once performed, it requires no further thought or planning on the man's part. As a permanent, long-term method of contraception, it is very cheap. The operation itself is simple-simpler than the female sterilization procedures-and requires no hospitalization or absence from work. Finally, it is one of the few methods that allows the man to assume contraceptive responsibility. The permanency of the vasectomy is a disadvantage for couples who change their minds about having children. Another disadvantage of the vasectomy is the various psychological problems that might result if the man sees sterilization as a threat to his masculinity or virility.
