Identify considerations for providing choices in the early childhood environment
What will be an ideal response?
When providing choices, the number of choices in the classroom should be based on the number of children. At any given time, each child should have two to three choices. Choices provided in the environment should have natural boundaries, indeed to reflect overall classroom goals and children's individual needs and interests. Children need to be allowed to make their own choices, and it is important for teachers help families understand the choices children make are based not only on their own interests but also on internal drives that enable the mastery of certain tasks at particular points in time.
