Describe the forced-distribution method of performance appraisal.

What will be an ideal response?

Forced distribution assumes the performance level in a group of employees will be distributed according to a bell-shaped, or "normal" curve. An evaluator compares the performance of employees and places a certain percentage of employees at various performance levels. 20 percent are rated superior, 60 percent average, and 20 percent below average. This method is not applicable for small groups and is subjective because one employee's performance rating is a function of the performance of others.
