Briefly explain the process by which the components of a peanut butter and jelly sandwich would be

absorbed once they have been broken down. What will be an ideal response?

The amino acids resulting from the digestion of proteins as well as the monosaccharides resulting from
the digestion of polysaccharides and disaccharides are absorbed via active transport through the
epithelial cells of the villi into the adjacent capillaries. The fatty acids and monoacylglycerols resulting
from the digestion of triglycerides are absorbed into the epithelial cells in the intestinal lining,
reassembled as triglycerides, packaged with cholesterol and phospholipids forming chylomicrons, and
then enter a lacteal of the villus.
