Identify four recommended guidelines for early intervention and special education programs that are appropriate to home-based services. Why are these important guidelines for home-based services?

What will be an ideal response?

Recommended guidelines suggest that interventions should (1) be embedded in naturally occurring activities such as meal time, bathing, play, and bedtime; (2) address family members’ identified priorities and preferences; (3) include all family members who desire to participate; and (4) develop collaborative work between professionals and families to achieve family- identified outcomes. These guidelines are important because they fully utilize the space of the home to achieve natural building of skills needed for daily living in the home and in society; they also prioritize the family as a whole and incorporate family priorities and involvement with the child.
