How does the FDA oversee the marketing/sale of supplements? How does this protect the consumer?

The FDA does not have to approve supplement products for sale. The agency will investigate any claims that the product has done harm or is misleading. If the product has violated labeling claims, the FDA can insist that it be taken off of the market. The FDA can also issue a warning about the product to consumers so that they avoid using it in the first place.
